The Arena
"Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up these defenses, you build this whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life. You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They do something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own any more. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination, not just in the mind. It's a soul hurt, a body hurt... gets inside you and rips you apart pain. I hate love."

-Neil Gaiman

Went for The Arena briefing today. For the uninitiated, The Arena refers to a really lame tv programme they're going to have next year due to a really brilliant idea by some idiot that debating was fun to watch. So they're going to have this reality show THE ARENA where schools compete against each other and make a fool out of themselves on national tv.

And the judges love stupid analogies too! The guy was going on about how the prop was progressing really slowly, like "a stampede of turtles wading through peanut butter". Everyone was laughing and I was completely astounded at the creative analogy, which really is quite creative if you think about it, albeit very lame.

They made everyone wave their arms in the air and go "THE ARENA!" after they went "WELCOME TO THE - " and they made us do that five times. Wth?! That was the singularly most spastic thing I've ever done, and I'll just bet it's going to go on national tv.

And the poor innocent people whose pictures they koped from debate competitions to stuff there on their advertisement to promote the arena! I'm pretty sure I saw quite a number of very familiar faces.

Haha ohwell it was quite enjoyable cos I saw so many people! JEANNIE ELIZABETH NERINE MICHELLE! ((:

and you'll never realize the magnitute of it, cos i've never shown it. isn't it funny how i can't talk to you freely cos i'm always afraid of something, there's always something.

but we're but mere strangers. and you, just a distant planet. like the tenth planet. just discovered, so far away, but there all the same.
